Rivage Steam Demo Notes and Limits

The Rivage demo is a purpose-built first hour on station A.R.E.S., not a random slice of the September 22, 2026 campaign. Exnilo Studio timed it for about sixty minutes of Miranda Vigneau waking on May 1, 2467, reading the crew’s leftovers, and learning that POWER, not death, ends a loop. It teaches the grammar you need for the full game: K9 persistence, one-item hands, keycard levels, and the Time Trickster arcade that fires a reset when the grid is gone.

That public Steam build is no longer listed. After the launch window moved from August 13 to September 22, the studio pulled the demo. The stated reason was that the demo no longer represented the shipping experience, especially around user experience and quality of life. If you downloaded it before the pull, local copies still run. They are a snapshot of an earlier build. Treat them that way.

The August 18 Steam post listed what had already moved in the work-in-progress build: reworked UI and UX, new voice lines, new narrative hints, reworked puzzles, and entirely new puzzles. The team was explicit that the full game would still feel like the same station — familiar rooms and story pieces — but that the April–June demo was no longer the right advertisement. A color hatch mix or a map label you learned in the demo may be restaged on September 22. Keep the grammar. Do not tattoo the tile order.

What the demo is for

The demo exists to answer three questions before you spend a launch evening:

  1. Do you like first-person station puzzles that hide answers in emails and physical props?
  2. Can you plan a loop around a shrinking power bar instead of a health bar?
  3. Does the K9 implant, with its screenshots and banked solutions, feel like a notebook or like extra UI?

If the answer to those is yes, the getting started guide and the loop planner are the next reading. If you want the room order, use the first-hour walkthrough. This page stays on the product itself: length, save rules, what was pulled, and where the demo wall sits.

The path is dedicated. You are not dropped into a late-game wing. You wake in Miranda’s quarters, work through emails and a birthday password reset, open a safe labeled by her book Stardust, then push into the crew corridor, kitchen, astro lab, dock, pharmacy, pod bay, and lobby. The crew roster names you will see on doors and notes are Dahia, Johnny, Aman, and Rafi. You will not finish their stories here.

Saves, carry-over, and local copies

Demo saves do not carry into the full release. Start September 22 from a clean slot even if your local demo is sitting at the color panel. Steam Cloud on the full game is a separate feature; it does not import the demo’s fingerprint.

Local copies still launch after the store page came down. That is useful if you want to practice the pharmacy battery route or screenshot a whiteboard before launch. It is also a trap if you assume every prompt, highlight, or quality-of-life tweak in that build will match the shipping version. Exnilo delayed specifically to improve those layers. Use the demo to learn systems, not to memorize every tooltip.

There is no multiplayer in the demo because Rivage is single-player only. You cannot invite anyone into A.R.E.S. You can, and should, pause to read. The demo’s hour stretches or shrinks with how long you stare at lockers.

What you will practice

  • Power as a timer. Entering rooms and running systems spends the station battery. The time-loop page explains why a four-room wander can be a full run.
  • K9 as memory. Codes, screenshots, and solved steps persist. The flashlight lives here too. The K9 guide is the habit list.
  • One item at a time. Pharmacy batteries and keys force you to choose a route. You cannot pocket the whole station.
  • Keycard levels. A level-one card does not open a level-two door. The broken keycard reconstruction is a demo set-piece, not a full-game spoiler dump.
  • Arcade reset. Time Trickster is how you accept a blackout and start the next loop on purpose.

Puzzles you will actually touch include emails, the Stardust safe, an astro lab cube, a kitchen anomaly, dock controls, three emergency pharmacy batteries, pod-bay services, Aman’s key and box, a damaged keycard, a lobby jigsaw audio puzzle, a lobby computer, Aman’s locker, and a color panel. The puzzle catalog groups those families so the demo is not a string of one-off tricks.

What the demo does not tell you

It does not tell you how the full A.R.E.S. layout opens after September 22. It does not resolve the anomaly around VESTA. It does not finish Miranda’s search for the crew. It does not unlock every locker you can see through a window. Players who stayed past the intended wall reported doors, chargers, and data sticks that simply were not wired for this hour. If a panel never accepts a code you found, it may be demo geometry, not a missed sticky note.

The demo also does not represent final UX. That is why it left Steam. If a highlight is fussy or a prompt is easy to miss, do not assume the shipping build will nag you the same way. Watch the news log for post-delay notes rather than treating a 2026 April build as documentation.

Should you play it before launch?

Play it if you already have the files and you want the station’s vocabulary in your hands. Skip it if you want a fully fresh September 22 and you do not enjoy replaying a first hour later. Either way, wishlist Steam app 4094660, confirm system requirements, and skim controls so DualSense or keyboard is ready.

The official site, Discord, and @RivageTheGame sit on the links page. Raw Fury’s store copy and the PlayStation concept listing (10017506) describe the same pitch: Miranda, A.R.E.S., missing crew, puzzles in the walls. The demo is the only public place those walls were playable at length. Use it as a classroom. Then put the save away.

When you do play, do not speedrun the credits that are not there. Spend the hour learning how many rooms your power bar actually buys. That number is the whole game in miniature, and it is the one statistic the demo is honest about.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How long is the Rivage demo?

About one hour on a dedicated A.R.E.S. path. Slow readers of emails and locker notes will run longer. The walkthrough matches that first-hour route.

Why was the demo pulled from Steam?

After the delay from August 13 to September 22, Exnilo removed the public demo because it no longer matched the shipping UX. Local copies still run. Track notes on the news page.

Do demo saves carry over to the full game?

No. Demo saves do not carry over. Start the September 22 release on a new slot even if your local demo is complete.

Can I still download the demo?

The public Steam listing came down. If you already installed it, the local files still launch. New store downloads are not offered from the pulled page.

Does the demo include the full station?

No. It is a dedicated first-hour path through quarters, kitchen, pharmacy, pod bay, and lobby. Later wings and the finished mystery wait for the September 22 launch.
